Enter Adulthood

Yeh so been feeling a little off colour recently. Not sick but... just off colour.
This is apparently heralding a time when Al and I make that leap into parenthood and the dangerous and wild world of 'the grown up'.

There is the endless debate when you reach this point, who do we tell? And when? I never realised there was so much superstition surrounding pregnancy. You can't tell anyone before the first 12 weeks, you can't keep anything for the baby in the house until it's born.

I'm not feeling this to be honest, for one thing how long would I get away with not drinking every time I went out or to my friends houses? The antibiotic story only works once or twice before suspicion sets in. They'd twig.

Then there is practicality. I don't drive, stashing baby gear in someone else's house for the duration of the pregnancy is impractical. I mean seriously when does the superstition end? When you bring the kid home (hopefully) and then have to quickly assemble furniture and cots and stuff? Seems a little mad to me.

We decided it was a better option to tell people. If anything happens then people will know why i wasn't myself or al wasn't himself. PLus Al is so excited I don't think he'd last until october to tell people. He was bursting to tell everyone the day i told him!

So I'm five weeks gone, first major milestone is the end of the first trimester when I have the 12 weeks scan. Then chance of miscarriage goes down by about 50% and this is the first "superstition" bit over with. This will be our first indication of how the foetus is getting on and if everything is ok. Fingers crossed everything goes ok for this one!

According to the info at 5 weeks..Your embryo (at this tiny stage, she's still not technically considered a baby or even a fetus yet) is enjoying her first huge growth spurt. Although she still resembles a tadpole more than anything else, she's sprouting tiny buds that eventually will become arms and legs. Already her vital organs, including the heart, kidneys, and liver, are in place and growing. That's one good reason to pay close attention to your diet. Calcium-rich foods help bones, heart, and muscles grow — milk, cheese and tofu are all good sources.

This is going to be a journey. After this year being so difficult we can only keep going and hope everything goes smoothly.

Heee! And don't forget to take your folic acid. The Doc will give you that though. And if you like marmite, then that's good too.

And the stashing things in someone else's house, don't worry about the travel system and stuff, they can sit here for as long as you want :D They are all in perfect working action, just the pram has a little bit of Principessa artwork on it, when she was in her green and orange phase! But it's hardly noticeable. Just lemme know when you want them :)
