hmmm never rains eh?
I've not had chance to blog for a while. In between getting the flu and work I seem to find no reason to spend my spare time on the puter as well. Still sometimes it's a welcome distraction.
It's been a busy ole month. Mr Tom gained an age and had a fun house party involving lots of ale and cakes :) The natureboys played a gig in the KH at an all day event and it was good cept my feet hurt at the end of it all.
And most recently Rhain had a birthday in which everyone dressed up as something dead... so deciding to opt for the dress down version I went as a crone. oh it was fun. I made wrinkles and everything. I never looked so good for a 850 year old. ;)
My house is still standing but with every move to make headway into actually decorating or doing something come the inevitable reasons not to be so cheerful. In this case i recently discovered we had soggy wallpaper in the back and slightly earthy smells in the front room when it was raining which it tends to do often in this ole country. So investigating the worst bit first... the decidedly soggy wall, I deduced that the gutters were infact dead and the water was appalled enough to avoid even going in them and just run down the side of the house. Thus soaking nicely into the walls. Plan of action now is that we'd have to replace the gutters and also cap a chimney which we never knew we had in the back. This chimney appears not to have been capped at all which could account for a lot of the damp in the back bedroom!
So job one before anything... do the gutters and chimney.
Then to avoid the earthy condensation damp I was getting in the front and back we need to make sure the front underfloor space vents are ventilated properly... and lower the back yard to about 4 inches lower than it is now (and it's original level) so the DPC actually does its job. It'd help eh?
So job two before anything... Lower the yard.
And then I can sort out the underfloor space so it's insulated and hopefully dry and ventilated in preparation for decorating which might actually commence in about 2015 at this rate.
All good fun with oversized power tools though! First job though before anything else is to get the heating fixed. It's bloody cold!
I can't quite believe we're hitting November already, it's a busy month that's for sure. This year is seemingly whizzing by. I've had quite a comedy driven year this year achieving comedy nirvana when I got to see Billy Connolly twice in september. Ross Noble in the Empire 2 weeks ago and Bill Bailey in November (if the tickets ever arrive). I am due to be an auntie anytime from next week as Mandy and Paul get set to be official grown ups and then Al and I celebrate 7 years together the week after that which is kinda weird because it's mad to think its been 7 years already.
Still, fun with power tools in our house always keeps you together hahahaha!
