Hmm an eventful week in Skippyworld this week, well in context of me that is, not world news but hey this is a place for egocentric pondering so sod the rest of the world, they'd only complain about it after reading it three days after the event, on the front of the Daily Mail anyway.
Firstly I received a parcel of lovely maternity clothes from my sister in law and brother down in london. It was really cool of them and now I have many tops and things that I need to cover the bump. and to sort out this weekend. I see a major overhaul of my wardrobe as most of it at the moment won't fit until probably this time next year!
That was great and arrived on wednesday and which cheered me up after a somewhat traumatic bus journey home which involved shivering in many layers at the bus stop for 50 minutes whilst waiting for an actual bus! Still these things happen in winter and it was nice after I'd defrosted, to have things to look at and try on over my starting to bump, bump.
:)
The exciting thing was that I felt Bean move for the first time. I wasn't sure if it was wind (an affliction of the pregnant) but I was awake at about half 2 and felt what felt like a one of those annoying eye twitches but in the top of my stomach. Really really weird sensation and only for a second. I could scarcely breathe. It was really moving. Since then I've felt it a few more times but it's not really strong yet but it's definitely Bean making his or her presence known. Yesterday afternoon I went for my second midwife appointment and she let me hear Beans heart beat. That was also surreal as I was lying there hearing a hissing and cracking then all of a sudden there was this fast, solid "powpowpowpowpowpowpowpowpowpowpow" before it went crackly again. That was Bean, being caught and then not liking the midwife pressing down very hard on him or her and giving her a kick.
So exciting. And also reassuring. It's weird that you have a 12 week scan and you still don't feel pregnant. There's nothing to see or feel so it all feels very alien. Then there is a large period of time where you sit and let it all sink in. You still don't feel anything (cept sick) and people tell you at certain points you will be able feel something but sometimes you don't until after 20 weeks. So much is going on in your body that you don't know WHAT you're feeling. It's like things are going on all the time and you have no say in the matter. Your body is changing but not really fast yet and there are times when you wonder if it's ok, how do you know? It's a long way between 12 and 20 weeks.. a long way for waiting and not really knowing what's happening. SO many things can still go wrong, so hearing Beans heartbeat was really reassuring.
Got a little rambly there but it's hard to explain.
Anyway the experts say..
16 weeks...
Your baby's about the size of an avocado now but in the next three weeks, he'll go through a tremendous growth spurt — doubling his weight and increasing his length. In the meantime, he'll be playing with his umbilical cord and practising breathing. You're going through a bit of a growth spurt yourself. Your uterus has expanded so much that the ligaments in your abdomen are stretching to make room for it. If you feel any twinges of pain now, that's why.
So excitement in our house :)
And then of course no week is complete without work dramas, or comedy of errors when we got in on thursday and found we had a power outage... pretty much all day. What do you do in an office which relies on computers and the internet when there is no power to any of it?
Answer? Play office cricket and drink beer (well some people anyway)
Fun times... happy halloween!

Heee, it's all so very exciting! Those first few movements are amazing, aren't they? And hearing the heartbeat... I know exactly what you mean. You can buy those heartbeat monitors. You know, reading your blog is making me feel very nostalgic, but not in the least bit broody! I couldn't imagine going through it all again. Once was enough for me!
I have the school teething pains at the moment. Princi keeps falling ill, and it's the same thing every time. And it's only when she goes to school. She was never been repeatedly sick like this before she went to school. She had one period if pukiness and one cold each year.
aww it's tough isn't it? My mate Kev in work said when his son who is also Princi's age, went to nursery, for the first year he had ear infection after ear infection. Think it must just be the immune system getting used to alien germs but I can admit I'm not looking forward to that bit!
