Revelations

Oooh well a busy week in skipsville. Firstly thankee to Mr Ste for the congrats. As you can see this will become a regular update on how Bean (and the various evils of pregnancy progress) so be assured there will be plenty of updates.

On monday Al and I went for our first scan. I was quite nervous but also really excited about the prosepect. Being far too sensible about things I have been fretting over maternity leave and the money situation so haven't been able to "enjoy" being pregnant at all so far. The sickness hasn't helped much there either and bean is still making me sick later in the day now though and less often. Eesh! This is supposed to have stopped now!

Anyway went in to get the ultrasound after waiting an extra 30 mins over the appointment time. I didn't mind that much but as you have to drink at least 2 litres of water on the day so that the bladder is full and they can get a clearer image, I was a little desperate by the time it came to pressing on my stomach. Ye gads I nearly shot through the roof but she dug about and lo there was our tiny jumping bean. S/he wouldn't keep still but she managed to get this shot.

Bean is the blobby shape on the left - it's head is at the bottom slightly tilted to the bottom right and it's body facing upwards. You can make out it's little arms and legs as well if you look hard enough but that was the most amazing thing. Al was beaming and I cried (hormones don'tcha know) but looking at that tiny (it's about 2 inches big) made nothing else important. Quite mind blowing. Now I feel so protective and can't imagine anything happening to it.

She measured it and she said I'm now 12 weeks so I've been a week behind in my estimation but the heartbeat is strong and I guess it's now real. So now come the endless rounds of hospital trips for tests and taking litres of my blood!!

Here's the write up for 12 weeks...
Welcome to your second trimester! Your raging hormones could be calming down a bit and you may also notice your nausea tapering off. Most women happily wave goodbye to morning sickness around now (although queasiness can return periodically throughout pregnancy). This week, your baby's face looks much more human. Her eyes have moved closer together and her ears are just about where they should be. Your baby has entered what is known as the fetal period, when tissues and organs rapidly grow and mature. Many women enjoy pregnancy much more in this trimester — early symptoms fade and the risk of miscarriage drops dramatically.

So that was a good thing to start the week off. The rest of this week has been taken up with sorting out mortgages, sorting out furniture so the electrician can get in and moving the office back to town. This I cannot wait for as currently it takes me an hour to get to work on 2 buses. Moving means a 20 minute journey and I get an extra hour in bed. This we like!

Anyway, off to do some work...

Woohoo! About the office move :D Bet you're relieved about that :)

It really is amazing at how different you feel when you see that first picture of the little alien growing inside! I cried too, when I saw Munchkin. I don't think it's just hormones, I think it is the whole overwhelming experience of bringing a new life into the world. But the first scan is when it does feel really real, when you see and hear the heartbeat for the first time. Amazing!
